ARCATA – Two young men were arrested Friday morning, July 29 after an occupied house was shot at multiple times in the 1700 block of Stewart Avenue in Arcata.
Arcata Police responded to the house at 2:12 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. Officers found that multiple bullets had been fired into the front of the house and through a front window. Shell casings were found in the roadway near the residence.
The occupants of the house were contacted and found uninjured.
The vehicle with the two shooters was described as a dark-colored four-door sedan. That description matched a vehicle police had seen leaving the area when they responded. Almost exactly an hour after responding the call, police made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description and they noticed a rifle in the back seat.
During a search of the vehicle, two firearms that were consistent with the casings left behind at the shooting scene were found. Additional evidence linking the vehicle to the shooting was also found.
Police arrested Benjamin Isaia Heidmann, 18, of Arcata and Konner Lee Wright, 22, of McKinleyville on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling, wearing body armor while in commission of a felony, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, and use of a mask while committing a crime. They were booked into the county jail.
The investigation is ongoing. Anybody who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Arcata Police Department.
